My students come from very diverse backgrounds and follow their individual learning curves that make them unique. Our school has a wide range of social economics. My room contains 10 ELL students, 2 special education students, 6 homeless/transitional housing students along with other students. The process of learning to read and understanding what they have read along with understanding mathematics varies widely with each child due to the make up of my classroom. In order to enable my 2nd graders to grow at their individual pace and yet be challenged at their current level, they need to be equipped with level-appropriate reading and math materials they can explore on their own while I am working with reading and math rotations.
