Sitting at a desk for 7 hours a day can be taxing an uncomfortable. I know that when I sit down to work, I like to be comfortable. My students do too! I started flexible seating earlier this year and have had much success since then. We are looking to expand our classroom so EVERYONE will have the option. Creating an environment that feels more "comfortable" than the harsh atmosphere of desks and harsh lights has been amazing. "Flexible seating has had a positive impact on my learning because it makes things comfortable and fun," a student in my class commented. Another said, "I makes me think about where I'm going to learn best that day." Since instituting flexible seating, my class has become more focused and the level of engagement has increased. I've been especially excited to see students who tend to refrain from being present during lessons be eager to learn. I've even seen my attendance improve! Students want to be on time to class so they can choose their seat for the day! It has allowed certain needs to be met in different ways. I believe that if my project is funded, it will continue to increase learning engagement, responsibility, and classroom community!
