Being a secondary English teacher in my community is a privilege. Students are constantly working with thinking maps, writing with structured oral language practices, and constructing written responses in order to succeed and achieve in the classroom. Our school is a safe learning community in which students of all different skills and language abilities come together to work collaboratively with one another in order to increase learning accountability and student achievement in and out of the classroom. Being able to be the advisor for a scholastic club such as Model United Nations is so special. I am able to work with students who are seeking opportunities beyond the classroom to learn research, speaking, negotiating, and conflict resolution skills in an extracurricular school activity. The passion and the drive from my students truly motivate me to continue finding opportunities for them to learn and grow!
