The best way to describe my students is tenacious. They love each other, our community, and our school. They work hard but many of them are overcoming some pretty heavy challenges. Many of my students come from military families and are currently facing, or have faced multiple deployments, of one of their parents. They have also moved around a lot. This puts them at a disadvantage as they always seem to be catching up both socially and academically. Some of my other students come from low-income housing and are likely going to be the first in their family to graduate from high-school and given the opportunity, college. My tenacious students have a thirst for growth and knowledge. They love, educate, and defend each other like family. If grades were based on hard-work and compassion, they would all be 4.0 students. However, they have not always been given all of the tools they need to satisfy their thirst for knowledge and struggle to keep up with their more affluent peers.
