I am a second year middle school teacher. When I looked around in my classroom, I was appalled by what I saw. The old copies of "The Giver" by Lois Lowry were torn, old and missing many pages. Because of this, I had to xerox copies for the students to use. The print was so small, and it was a struggle for the students to read. The first lesson of the year is taught using "The Giver." We read the whole book, while taking time to examine each chapter. New books are desperately needed, in order for the students to have a successful lesson!
