Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have noticed that the needs of my students have changed and significantly increased. They are experiencing trauma and increased anxiety and stress as a result of the ongoing pandemic. Studies have shown that yoga and mindfulness are beneficial in decreasing stress and anxiety in children and teens. My high schoolers have difficulty unplugging from technology and learning how to unwind. By completing the Breathe for Change, I hope to teach them the skills to successfully mediate, unplug, practice some yoga and increase their social emotional regulation skills. The Breathe for Change Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) has many lesson plans that I can use with my students, some examples are: Compassion and Courage, Supporting Student Wellbeing During School Closures, Mindfulness and Presence and Cultivating Love and Gratitude. My students will benefit from the Breathe for Change program because I will learn the skills to teach my students to manage their emotions, overcome obstacles and enhance their overall physical and emotional well-being.
