A classroom should inspire creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Flexible seating does just that. Students know how they learn best and with the choice of variety of seating options students take control of their environment and exhibit pride in their learning experience. A classroom should be designed to reach different learning modalities and to motivate each individual to maintain engagement. With a variety of seating options, including Zenergy balls and bean bags, individual study, group work, presentations, partner discussions, and one-on-one instruction can all be easily implemented in the classroom. Flexible seating creates a positive learning community. Since I began implementing flexible seating in my classroom I have seen an increase in the ownership of their learning, a higher quality of productivity, and an elevation in class collaboration.
