Thanks to you, my students now have access to engaging sensory materials—specifically, supplies to make slime as a reward-based activity that supports self-regulation, planning, and task completion.\r\n\r\nThe day the materials arrived, my students were buzzing with excitement. Their eyes lit up as we unpacked the vibrant glue bottles, activators, glitter, dyes, and containers. For many of them, this was their first time working with these kinds of materials in a school setting.They were shocked to be engaging in such a fun activity in school. The sense of ownership and anticipation was truly heartwarming.\r\n\r\nWe're using the slime kits as a reward after completing goal-oriented tasks. The process of making slime isn't just fun—it's a lesson in itself. Students follow multi-step written and verbal directions, practice measuring and mixing with care, and collaborate in small groups to problem-solve when the slime needs adjusting (too sticky or too stiff). These activities promote executive functioning skills like sequencing, impulse control, and persistence.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stands out was during a \"Slime Time\" where students had to plan out their recipe before receiving materials. Watching them strategize, revise, and then celebrate successful slime creations was incredibly rewarding. Students who typically struggle with staying on task were so proud of themselves for being so focused.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we may integrating more sensory reward activities as reinforcement systems. Your support has brought joy and valuable skill-building opportunities into our classroom. Thank you for being a part of our learning journey and for helping us grow in both creativity and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1750256212679,"projectUrl":"project/slime-to-stimulate-speech-a-fun-and-eng/9299504/","projectTitle":"Slime to Stimulate Speech: A Fun and Engaging Therapy Tool","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. A","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7870513_orig.jpg?crop=696,696,x1824,y252&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1670525493761","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sensoryslime"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_423","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":258,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":47,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.4,"schoolId":423,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 175 City Island on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 175 City Island","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-175-city-island/423"}
