I believe, and research shows, that students improve at reading with practice. In order for this to happen we need all of our students actively engaged in reading daily, both in our classrooms and at home. Students who are excited about reading, who also have high quality, engaging books at their fingertips daily, will grow and develop as readers. With increased opportunities to read, students will build their stamina for reading and develop a daily habit and lifelong love of reading. As with any task, the learner must be motivated in order to be successful. My request is for materials to create a book club that will help me motivate my students to love to read. I am asking for a variety of high quality and engaging picture books and chapters books to read and discuss with my students in a book club setting. The goal is for the students to internalize the skills and strategies learned from our book club reading and utilize them when reading at home. Students will use the reading easel to share their reading and strategies with the class.
