Stargirl and it's sequel, are both great stories about self discovery. I was able to read Stargirl with my students last year during remote learning and loved the discussions about kindness, bullying and identity that it elicited. We were able to build community through Jerry Spinelli's words and characters. I am excited to try this novel study with my student's in person this year but in order to do that, I would need physical copies for each of my students. This would allow my students to be able to read the book and not have to share with students in other periods, thus preventing any kind of cross contamination in case of a COVID case. Social emotional learning is more important than ever, and this novel would be a great way to merge reading objectives and that.
