"Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true." RBG The world is rapidly changing and my students are primed to be the next generation of leaders which is why representation is so important. For many, growing up in the community that we live in can be hard. The potential that they have to be the game changers we've been waiting for is not without reach. Even though a pandemic they have been working extremely hard to keep up in their studies and stay current with world events. When the world watched the tragedy that was George Floyd's death, these 7 and 8 year olds held meaningful conversations about what it means to be anti-racist, how to direct energy into positive reforms, and why Black Lives Matter. It is my hope to fill our classroom library with books that reflect them so that they can see the potential I know they hold and unleash it for all. I am proactive in bringing diversity to our classroom so that when my students leave, they do so with an appreciation of not just their own cultures and experiences but those of others as well.
