Our students are all first generation Americans from low-income families who have made incredible gains in reading and math through the technology that we have to use in our classrooms. Many of my students are diligently learning English, and want to learn and grow. The technology we use helps my students achieve their ambitious goals of gains in math and reading. Our students are grounded in the concepts of growth mindset, and they use their chromebooks to access information as well as to learn and grow from a variety of media sources such as TED talks, news sources such as CNN and many others. We have the bare-bones basics for our students and we as teachers find creative ways to use our chromebooks as a source of texts and applications to drive student learning. What we need most critically now are headphones. We have been using dollar-store headphones and they have simply fallen apart over the course of the year.
