Second grade is such an important time in reading development for students, and they will be growing in reading faster than ever before. As a first year teacher, I have been fortunate enough to inherit parts of a library, but I am missing an essential mass of nonfiction books that are imperative to student reading development, as well as enough storage for a large library. Students will use these books to pair their love of reading with their love of learning through access to appropriate nonfiction texts. Reading nonfiction is an essential standard in all grades and will help better prepare my students to be successful in the future.
