I teach at a charter school in Maryland. This year, I will be teaching high school English, a course where students need to pass the state exam in order to graduate. Many of our students come in to our school reading and writing significantly below grade level, and I must motivate them to enjoy both while also ensuring that they are growing as readers and writers.
