My students come from many different backgrounds. Some have the picturesque family while others feel abandonment. Some feel financially wealthy while others feel hungry at night. Yet, even with these differences the students are caring, compassionate, and work well with one another. The school has three grades: fifth, sixth, and seventh. Teaching the seventh graders means you have the "seniors" of the schools. This comes with both positive and negatives. I want my students to not only feel pride in being the oldest but I want them also to feel the sense of responsibility that comes along with that. Creating a positive, compassionate, safe, and fun environment for themselves and their younger peers. I will be creating class projects this year that help instill this behavior and emotion. Projects such as peer mentoring, fundraising during our Christmas Carol Unit, and the school newspaper.
