My students are accustomed to simply reading a text and answering questions about the passage. My students do not find reading enjoyable.
The Green Ember will capture my students imagination and draw them into the story, showing my students that reading can be fun and enjoyable! The Green Ember has many themes that are applicable to my students and my classroom. One of the themes this book covers is the importance of community and working together. It also stresses that each person has their own talents to bring, and we should incorporate these into everything we do.
It is important that my students have individual copies of The Green Ember so that we can successfully complete a novel study. The students will be reading in small groups, with the teacher, and independently at different times throughout the novel study. We will work on projects to explore the sequence of the story and themes hidden in the pages.
We will also create writing projects to explore and increase our imaginations. This novel study of The Green Ember will challenge my students and keep them motivated to continue learning till the end of the year!
