In kindergarten, we constantly move from the carpet, to tables, to centers and back to the carpet throughout our daily routine. Independent work and group activities are mostly completed at the tables, but sitting on the carpet is the ideal time for instruction. The students can listen and see better during calendar time, participate in Smart Board activities, listen to influential/educational books and watch informational videos. Sitting on the carpet is such an important time during our routine to help the students learn. It is a time for questions, curiosity and critical thinking. A bright and organized rug will welcome students to participate, be engaged and sit comfortably during carpet time. Since the students are around the age of 5, sitting in a specific and giving their friends reasonable space is sometimes difficult. With this specific rug, having a defined space will help them remember the expectations of sitting at carpet time. The rug is also a great enhancement and resource for the students to reference to learn their colors and shapes. My students already love participating during carpet time and having an inviting rug will only support more positive learning.
