My students are high school freshman who are apprehensive, unsure, and intimidated by what the future may hold. However, they show up every day ready to learn and rise to the challenges that lie before them thus getting one step closer to the ultimate goal of graduation. My students come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. While most are from middle-class backgrounds, they still lack the resources and support needed to be successful their very first year of high school. Many of my students come to class without the proper materials to maximize their learning potential. The lack of the basics such as pens, paper, highlighters, and more causes students to experience a learning gap that can only get wider as the year progresses. Yet, despite these challenges my students are resilient and press toward the mark. They have taken ownership of our classroom motto: Progress not Perfection!
