A laptop will help make a difference in my students' learning by motivating and encouraging them during all day distance learning and will allow my students to access the curriculum through different learning modalities. Currently, my older school computer has had difficulty uploading various programs, staying connected to Zoom, and often is unable to share screen/ resources with my students. As I teach Special Education students, they all have learning disabilities, and each child learns differently and at their own pace. A laptop that can be connected to a document reader will bring their lessons to life and hopefully foster a love of learning and a real interest in technology. Moreover, the laptop will provide students with the ability to practice 21st Century technology skills and prepare them to be more technologically savvy. I would like to have a laptop that is dependable and also motivates and engages my students to access the general education curriculum in Reading, Writing, Math and Social Sciences. Specifically, as a Resource teacher, a MacBook laptop will help me provide differentiated instruction in a small group or whole group setting so that students can achieve and access curriculum. This technology will help me create online curriculum for reading fluency, creative writing, math reasoning skills and social science standards. As the Resource Specialist teacher, one of my biggest responsibilities is individual online assessment for reading fluency. For example, DIBELS ( Dynamic Indicators for Basic Early Literacy skills) is an assessment tool that focuses on the student's literacy ability, which drives my standard based instruction. Finally, it is important to have a reliable computer to write each student's IEP (Individualized Education Plan), as well as the may Initial IEPs for students that need to be assessed for my program.
