Reading is a struggle for many students and when they are not given the appropriate resources to help them improve, it becomes even more of a challenge. My students have varied levels in decoding, fluency and comprehension. Reading is not beneficial to any student if they are unable to understand what they are reading. For my students, comprehension is a challenge and their comprehension skills are extremely below grade level. This results in each student being on a different reading level and each requiring a different amount of support. Our school funding is very low, therefore it lacks the materials to support each student and their individual needs. Most of my students come from low income homes and are unable to afford books and materials to help their children excel outside of school. If provided with leveled books and various task to boost their comprehension, my team and I will be able to individualize lessons to help reach each students goals. With your donations and support, my students will not only be able to use these book in school but they will be able to take them home to further their reading and become more confident in themselves.
