My project is inspired by the work of Peter Liljedahl and his book, Building Thinking Classrooms. My goal is to create a classroom environment where students are thinking, not just following memorized steps to answer a math problem. I hope to move beyond memorization and inspire deep thinking in my classroom. I hope to increase engagement and problem-solving as well. I will put the dry erase surfaces up all around my classroom and every day that students come to class they will be assigned a random group to work with. The groups will work together at the dry erase surfaces to complete tasks aimed at getting them to think collaboratively and have fun doing math!
