The lights are motion-detecting so they surprise students when they enter the stacks. All the adults who come upon them are also instantly delighted. Every day, someone new catches the chess bug in our school library! Students and even adults are teaching each other and getting absolutely hooked--and I love to see it. Connect Four, Jenga, and UNO are also extremely popular. Sure, it gets a little noisy for a library, but students deserve some time and space in the day to blow off steam, don't they? I am happy to provide the space, and I'm so grateful to you for providing the resources to be able to offer our students these games. Boxes from Amazon and Lakeshore Learning showed up loaded with Fraction Tower Cubes, Magnetic Fraction Circles, Fraction & Decimal Tiles, Write & Wipe Number Lines, and not one but FIVE sets of Fraction War card games — and the moment I started unpacking them, hands were already reaching out to touch and explore.\r\n\r\nFractions are one of the most challenging concepts I teach, and for so many students, the struggle is that fractions live only on paper — as symbols and rules that feel disconnected from anything real. These tools changed that instantly. Within our very first lesson using the manipulatives, I watched a student who had been stuck on equivalent fractions for weeks suddenly light up. She lined up her Fraction Tower Cubes, compared the pieces side by side, and said, \"Oh — they're the SAME. I can SEE it.\" That moment is exactly why hands-on learning matters, and it would not have happened without your generosity.\r\n\r\nWe are now moving into comparing and ordering fractions, and then on to adding and subtracting with unlike denominators — concepts that have historically tripped my students up. I can already tell this year will be different. My students will be playing Fraction War to practice comparing, building with the tiles to understand operations, and drawing on number lines to develop number sense. They are going to walk into state testing genuinely confident.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing that every student deserves the tools to truly understand math — not just memorize it. For so many of our kids, having access to these essentials means they can grab what they need without feeling embarrassed or worried. It's a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference. It tells them: You matter. We care about you. And that message sticks. It helps them focus on what's really important—learning, growing, and just being themselves—without the stress of not having what they need.\r\nWhen students feel safe and cared for, they shine. They walk into school with confidence, knowing that if they need deodorant, toothpaste, or anything else, it's there—no questions, no judgment. What could have been a source of anxiety is now a source of comfort. This space has become a reminder that they belong here, that they're seen and valued. And honestly, that feeling is priceless.\r\nLooking ahead, we want to keep this space stocked and ready, so every student can continue to feel that sense of security. These items might seem small, but the impact is huge. They help kids feel comfortable in their own skin, ready to participate, connect, and learn. It's not just about hygiene, it's about dignity, confidence, and giving them the chance to show up as their best selves.\r\nThe ripple effect is real. This initiative has sparked so much positive change, and it's only going to grow. Students who feel supported like this do better in school and in life. They know their school cares about them—not just as students, but as people. That kind of care builds trust, and trust builds community. And when we have a strong, caring community, everyone wins.\r\nNone of this would be possible without you. Your generosity isn't just filling shelves—it's filling hearts. It's creating confidence, hope, and a sense of belonging that goes way beyond the classroom. You're making a difference in ways that truly matter.\r\nThank you for making this happen. Thank you for helping us show every student that they matter. For many of them, this was the first time they had ever held a piece of obsidian, granite, or limestone in their hands.\r\n\r\nIn our Title I school, hands-on materials like these make an enormous difference. Students who normally hesitate to participate became fully engaged—passing rocks around the table, sketching textures, debating classifications, and making evidence-based claims. The rock kits also helped support my multilingual learners and students with IEPs by giving them concrete, accessible models to anchor abstract concepts.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, my classroom is now equipped for labs and activities that will benefit students for years to come. The project combined science, math, and engineering in a way that felt like play — but it also built real-world problem-solving skills. They learned how gears and torque affect speed, how sunlight angles change efficiency, and how teamwork makes innovation possible.\r\n\r\nThis project didn't just teach renewable energy; it gave my students the confidence to see themselves as future engineers, scientists, and creators.
