The materials will improve motor skills and musical knowledge. Moderate/Severe Special Needs, most of the time, do not receive musical instruction within the K-12 education due to the belief that they are extremely limited in their cognitive/physical abilities. In my eyes, this is not true. Just because they have a limitation, doesn't mean they can't participate. The items that are listed for my project are instruments they can hold/play to rhythms, understand note values and be included in a music making lesson. Students with special needs belong in music because it gives them an outlet to release stress, express their potential musical abilities and to feel included in the day to day life of school. It can also ignite learning and achieve potential breakthroughs in their cognitive skills.
