How do I describe my students? Frustrating, unfocused, off-task, disruptive.. But, they are MY frustrating (when they do the bare minimum because they have never been told they can do better), unfocused (because who can focus when you're hungry and sitting in an uncomfortable hard desk?), off-task (because who wants to fill out a worksheet when making beats on the desk and rapping about World War I is more fun?), disruptive (because their environment has taught them acting out gets them attention, not their hard work and good behavior) students! My kids are the kids that deserve more than what they are getting, and my classroom is the place I try to give them the safe space, education, love, and support they deserve.
