The instruments I am requesting in this project are different kinds of drums such as Toms, Tubanos, Frame Drums, and Kongas. I will use these drums to teach rhythm, teach the students to accompany themselves and/or each other, and reinforce steady beat. I have asked for a variety as well as multiples of the same drum to create a class set in order to ensure I have a myriad of different sounds to choose from for accompanying purposes and so each student has the opportunity to perform within the ensemble The ability to perform as an ensemble is paramount to a successful music education. It is a skill that can be translated into other areas of study as the students learn to listen, respond effectively, and cooperate as a team. Although these skills can be learned by simply singing in unison or clapping the rhythms, the students feel a much more pronounced sense of accomplishment when playing an instrument. It affords them the ability to learn a new skill such as hand drumming or using mallets, as well as how to manipulate the instrument to create different sounds to accompany a piece of music, and keep them engaged in the lesson and having fun! I have seen first hand how giving a student an instrument can change their mood, re-direct their focus, and make them feel accomplished and excited for a future in music. Please help my students grow into aspiring musicians! Thank you!
