Every August, I ask my students what they want to learn and most of my students respond with, "THE DRUMS!!" Unfortunately, our music room is currently only equipped with one djembe, and ten hand drums. Throughout the school year, we study the music of diverse lands and peoples. However, our opportunity for experiencing the drums of these cultures is limited to visual experiences via the Internet. In particular, my students are always thrilled when we learn about the music of the Caribbean, and especially about steel drum ensembles. I would love to help make their dreams come true by helping them personally experience playing in a steel drum ensemble.
