  • Calming Area

    Funded May 23, 2024

I can't express the immense gratitude I feel for your generosity. My students are so happy to see the weighted animals in our calming area. The sloth and the elephant are their favorites. They love knowing that they can go to a space that has tools that help them regulate their emotions when they are in. The sensory fidget toys are also a wonderful tool that my students enjoy and have helped them calm down when they are having a difficult moment or day.

Your kindness has afforded my students a nook in our classroom where they can go to when feeling overwhelmed. This little sanctuary has been made possible because of your donation and your commitment to supporting teachers like myself, our students and public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zamora

Yet, after a year of digital books, they will finally have a book physically in their hands to engage in rich and meaningful conversations. Teaching through the arts will present difficult science concepts visually, making them more easy to understand. Students will make observations and drawings of plant life. We will share our drawings and observations as they were drawn through the naked eye. Students will then collect the parts of a plant and draw what they look like under the microscope. The microscope will help them compare what they look like under the naked eye versus under a microscope. Integrating Visual Art in science will boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world. Making Visual Art part of science will reach students who might not otherwise be engaged in classwork. It will allow them the opportunity to experience and develop their natural, spontaneous explorations of their world into works of art and scientific observations. This microscope will give students the the tools they need to talk about and describe objects and reflect on their experiences through the visual arts.
