  • Every Child Is an Artist!

    Funded Dec 9, 2022

In preschool, children are learning to represent their ideas for the first time, using symbols. Representing ideas through art brings together so many skills at once and allows children to record and communicate their ideas. And it helps to make their thinking visible for me, their peers and their families.

Some of my favorite class projects made possible through this funding are cross-disciplinary. Just to give one example, my students learned about patterns in math lessons. Using the art materials, we reinforced the lessons through weaving projects that followed patterns.

This is so important and we thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erika

  • Let’s Get Comfy!

    Funded Jan 12, 2023

As a preschool teacher providing instruction in an inclusive setting, flexible seating and coziness is a priority. My favorite time of the day is story time. My students enthusiastically join in and I think they are eager because we always start by getting comfortable. Each child finds a cushion, a chair, a coach, a beanbag - they drag them over to the carpet while we sing our warm up song, and then sit ready for story time. What's not to love. Thank you for supporting this project. Your generous donation has helped create a space that fosters a sense of community and belongingness even while we're doing academic things.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erika

  • Designing Our PreK Floor Space

    Funded Dec 9, 2022

Thank you again for helping me define our space using high quality carpets and rugs. The carpets were even more beautiful than the photos online. A favorite activity at the water table is a problem-solving game using pipes and connections. We're using the marine-themed rug under our water table. This helps keep water from pooling up on the floor and makes it easy to clean at the end of the day, because sometimes, we forget to plug a hole!

The grass-themed rug is under our sand table and similarly, helps students maintain the cleanliness of the space and helps to make sure that the sand stays by the sand table. During our garden study, it was the garden and there was real dirt AND real plants. During our simple machine study, it was a place for paleontologists to excavate dinosaur bones! With just these two examples, you can imagine how messy PreK can be. The rug makes it possible to keep the mess manageable!

Our library space is a LARGE, cozy space where students can sit on the floor and read, retell stories and/or write their own! All thanks to you and your genoristy!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erika

I chose an iPad and an OSMO. We will use the iPad for research, and the OSMO as a tool for learning literacy and math, as follows: With an iPad, students will use technology to research information, and the OSMO has literacy and math games that are a hybrid of real-world and technology experience. As such, these games provide a developmentally appropriate learning experience. I have a curated list of high quality apps as well, and students will be limited to 30 minute technology experiences per week. My school does not have any tech available for our classroom, but our curriculum calls for a technology center! I would love to introduce these children to Ms. Google and Ms. Osmo!
