My class is filled with sixth grade students in a public K-8 school, in Philadelphia. We are located in a low income area in which many students come from one parent families. Many families do not spend very much quality time together as single parents are working to make ends meet. In the beginning of each school year, I make it known that we are a family and I promise parents that I will care for their child as I would want mine cared for as well. With that in mind, I feel it is my role to help students become exposed to current events and develop arguments and opinions when reading nonfiction articles.
