We are attempting to make reading classic novels more accessible to learners! And reading a novel turned into a play has been found to be a great option. The students love it, and learn a tremendous amount. This play would give us the option to broaden our learning abilities by learning to make inferences, character traits, character motivations, understanding how dialogue (inner and outer) can impact the theme of a story, and, of course, our ability to understand the theme of a piece of literature. Our students learn more when they are able to act out scenes and participate in the book, rather than just read it verbatim.
