At my school there are more teachers than there are classrooms, so classrooms are assigned based on seniority. After 8 years of being a "cart" teacher, I finally get my own classroom. I would love some help realizing my dream of having an amazing, lively, interactive classroom conducive to student learning, safety, and value. I would love to decorate my classroom to foster and reflect my love for science. I plan on having live animals and plants for students to observe and care for as well as creating a safe, calm, and empowering environment. I recently conducted a survey of my students, and one of the questions I asked them is that if they could design my classroom for next year what would they have in the classroom? An overwhelming amount of them said class pets and living things. I want my students to be exposed to a variety of living things to observe, care for, learn about, and become advocates for. I requested a worm habitat and a compost observer so that students can observe the behavior of various living organisms and see the role that each organism plays in the biosphere. I have also requested flouroescent filters and alternative lighting because students spend their whole day at school under harsh flouroescent light and natural light is shown to improve the moods of students exposed to it. I have included in my request science related wall decorations because the walls are currently bare. Lastly I have requested some caddies to help keep student supplies organized as they work in collaborative groups.
