We are a Title One school, and have received funding for all of our students to receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch. I have a wonderful group of eighteen first-graders. My students come from diverse backgrounds and living situations, and many of them come from low-income households. Some of the kiddos come into school in the morning, ready to learn, while others need a little more time to focus and adjust. They have a desire to learn, but need help to stay motivated and engaged in their learning. We have a strong emphasis on reading and writing in first grade, and students are involved in daily reading and writing workshops.
