The materials donated will directly impact my students daily in the classroom, both on a whole group and individual level. Each book on our list has a purpose, and has been carefully chosen to reflect the content covered each day in our class. My students are often most successful when they are able to connect the concept that they are learning to a concrete and age-appropriate model. In a whole group setting, having these stories to turn to for examples of concepts such as character traits, theme, figurative language, and author craft moves will help my students to gain a better understanding of concepts that are often a bit abstract and more difficult to grasp, especially for those who are ELLs. My students also love to read to one another in a partner setting during our individual work times. Having strong mentor texts readily available for them to bond over and choose from will help to spark meaningful conversations about the story and the content that the book connects to. These books will help to turn the learning over to the students, as they will be given the opportunity to become a teacher and a leader time and time again.
