The 5th graders were thrilled to dive into their annual tradition of creating clay monsters, a project that every Red Cedar art student looks forward to as a milestone in their artistic journey. Thanks to the contributions from donors, the students had the chance to and bring their imaginative ideas to life. The support not only provided the materials but also gave the students the opportunity to experience the joy of creating something uniquely theirs.\r\nBecause of the generous contributions, there was enough clay left over to expand beyond what has been possible in past years. This means students will be able to take on more projects throughout the school year, exploring new techniques and ideas. In addition, the 5th graders now have the chance to participate in a pottery wheel club after school, where they can gain hands-on experience with the wheel and experiment with a new form of artmaking. This opportunity has the potential to spark a lifelong interest in ceramics for some students, making the impact of the donors' support even more meaningful and lasting.","fullyFundedDate":1742905337352,"projectUrl":"project/creative-with-clay/9107204/","projectTitle":"Creative With Clay!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Visscher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3369559_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1490361934103","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3369559"},{"teacherId":2168246,"projectId":9158425,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding this project. It has already made a world of difference in my phonics block this year. The materials purchased with the grant have transformed our hands-on phonics instruction by providing engaging, tactile resources that bring learning to life. My students are actively using these tools during daily phonics lessons to explore letter sounds, blend words, and build reading confidence through interactive activities. When they first saw the new materials, their excitement and curiosity were immediate—they were eager to explore and use the resources, which sparked enthusiasm and increased participation in the lessons.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we are focusing on mastering consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) word patterns using the new manipulatives. The next steps involve applying these foundational skills to reading and writing simple sentences, helping students transfer their phonics knowledge to real-world literacy tasks. Thanks to your contribution, we were able to provide the materials that made this special event possible. This year, we hosted over 100 multilingual students and their families, creating a wonderful opportunity for them to engage in STEM learning together. Families worked side by side, navigating the Engineering Design Process to create their own cardboard gingerbread houses, using a mix of materials from the paper bags you helped provide. This tradition continues to be a highlight of our school year, and your support played a crucial role in making it a success.\r\n\r\nThe event, held on December 11, 2024, was not only a fun and creative evening but also a chance to foster a deeper connection with STEM education for our students and their families. Your donation allowed us to offer an engaging, hands-on experience that brings our community together, helping multilingual families feel at home in our school.
