We are a Title 1 school that services a very diverse population of students. Our classroom is one of 14 kindergarten classrooms. More than 90% of our students are English Language Learners and 80% are considered to be high poverty. Our building used to be a high school which makes life a bit more challenging for my little ones. We do not have sinks, restrooms, or a closet in our classroom. We share our building with a preschool, elementary, and middle school. Sinks, paper towels, and water fountains are a long walk, stretch, and reach. 19% of the students in our classroom are identified as having special educational needs. NO, I DO NOT have a teacher helper! Despite the challenges, we continuously strive to create an environment that is inviting, comfortable (both physically and psychologically) and promotes a sense of well-being for every person that enters our room.
