I am the brand new art teacher at Holmes Middles School and this is the first time they have a full time art teacher at this school in years. Most of my students have not had an art class besides small projects in elementary school. I have large classes of nearly 40 students for each class period and all are excited to get their hands on some materials to create something. We are starting off with the basics as we build up our knowledge in addition to the classroom itself. We work in table groups to help foster their academic language use as well as peer critique. In order to manage all these students, we use a table folder system to keep their work organized and safe. I hope to turn these students into individuals who feel more confident in their art and can use their skills in all subject matters.
