Flexible seating provides students with a choice of where to complete tasks, creating ownership and independence. With choice comes less distraction and higher work quality. Currently, my students have the option of completing work at their desks or on the floor with a clipboard. Additionally, I have a small reading nook in my classroom where students can grab a book to read and get comfortable. When given the option, they always want to go to the reading nook. When they are in the nook, they are on task and engaged. Since my classroom is on the smaller side, the reading nook only fits about five students at a time. With these flexible seating choices, my students will be able to have a choice; thus creating a more engaging and exciting work environment. The lap desks, wobble cushions, and chair bands will create a classroom filled with options. These seating choices will motivate my students. The chair bands will turn their normal desks into bouncy, focused spaces. The wobble cushions can be used on both a chair and the floor. This helps students focus by getting their wiggles out. The lap desks can be moved anywhere in the classroom. Students can sit, wiggle, and work. They can also take these lap desks outside to work. When provided with choice, the outcome of a task is increased. My students are wonderful learners; however, they have extremely short attention spans and need the opportunity to wiggle while they work!
