Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make smart choices that work for them. Students' home base will be their sit spots, where we will together for instructional time. However, during independent work, they choose a flexible seating spot that works for them. Currently, students in my classroom can choose between regular seating, stools, a standing table, a floor table, and working on the floor with clip boards. I want to ensure that all my students are comfortable while they learn and work so they can give me their best. When my kiddos are given the power to choose where to work, they make relatively good choices and even work with peers around them when they have questions about their work. The products that I’m asking for will help my students have more flexible seating options, and will help us all stay organized with all the movement that happens in our room. The soft seats and the star sit spots will give the students more seating options throughout the room. The literacy center management chart, along with the magnetic paper pockets, magnetic caddy, and magnetic storage boxes will help students stay organized during small groups, which in turn will help us be more efficient with transitions and our learning. As they say, time is precious in first grade! I have seen first hand how giving students the power to choose how they learn, as well as staying organized, positively affects their work and their attitudes towards school. I can’t wait to see my kiddos grow even more thanks to you!
