Middle school is rough. Students experience every emotion possible, and they feel it ten-fold. Their bodies are changing and growing, and academic expectations get more rigorous. This can make for a rough day! But my students take it in stride, and use every ounce of "try" that they have in order to be successful in every aspect of their day. My students have found that meditation can help them start their day with intention, allow them to refocus and find their center if they have gone off track, and help them reflect on the successes and hardships encountered throughout their day. They are learning to be reflective and intentional in their daily lives, and their growth is shown in all aspects of their day. This project will help provide students with a rug large enough for them to gather on for their daily morning meditation. The rug is a great anchor for the room; it not only provides a meditation space, but it also provides a meeting space for class discussions, a location to hold class meetings, and a comfortable space to gather to listen to a story. I have seen the students' ability to focus in class increase since implementing morning meditation, and I would love to provide them with a comfortable, designated space to focus their thoughts for the day to come.
