My amazing and beautiful middle schoolers come from a low-income community plagued by poverty and violence in Northern California where post-secondary education and career opportunities are limited given the added social, emotional, and physical challenges that they face. When my students enter middle school, they are sometimes years behind their peers in reading and math. Despite this, my school has been working relentlessly in order to support our students with the intervention that they need, to prepare them for a successful future, and to provide them with the education that all children deserve. As an improvement-targeted school and leader throughout our district, we have seen great strides in academic performance from our students, and I am confident that, provided quality instruction and equitable opportunities, my students will excel and exceed expectations.
