I teach a group of enthusiastic sixth graders who love to learn. There are 27 students in my Reading Workshop, and they have a wide variety of reading abilities and interests. Although many of my students would call themselves readers, a significant number do not see themselves that way. These students often struggle with reading. My goal is to create an environment where all of my readers - whether struggling, reluctant, or voracious - can grow. During Reading Workshop each day, I confer with individual students and instruct small groups while every student reads independently. Having 27 students with 27 different needs can make this a monumental task, and I need more resources to run the most effective Reading Workshop possible.
