  • Quiet on Set! Audio Equipment for Student Broadcast

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution to our DonorsChoose project. Thanks to your support, our student broadcast team now has high-quality audio equipment that is already making a significant impact on our productions.

Your donation has provided our students with professional-grade microphones and accessories that have elevated the quality of our weekly broadcasts. The students are thrilled to work with real-world tools that not only enhance their projects but also build valuable skills in communication, media production, and teamwork.

Since receiving the equipment, we have noticed a remarkable improvement in the clarity and professionalism of our segments. The students take great pride in their work, and the upgraded audio has increased their confidence and engagement. Whether they are reporting on school events, conducting interviews, or hosting our popular 'fit checks,' your generosity has made it all possible.

This experience has been incredibly inspiring for our young broadcasters, showing them that their voices matter and that people like you believe in their potential. Thank you for investing in their creativity and education. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated, and we can't wait to share more of our students' work with you in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Moser

  • Lessons in Perseverance and Overcoming Hatred

    Funded Mar 5, 2021

My 8th graders love ending the year with this novel and more than ever they could relate to the theme of perseverance. For many, this is their first encounter with World War II and the atrocities of the Holocaust, POW camps, and Japanese Internment Camps.

We followed along with the audiobook and learned how Louie first became a troublemaker to a reformed student and athlete, and from an olympian to an airman. The children loved seeing how he wasn't perfect and played pranks on others but grew up and did what he needed to do. They explored what it means to be a "hero" through the actions of the servicemen at sea as castaways and then trying to keep each other alive as prisoners. We also explored the European Theatre and how Hitler rose to power and compared Germany's fight to Japan's. We also compared the concentration camps to the POW camps in Japan and to the Internment Camps in the US. The numbers of casualties staggered them.

Throughout it, the kids stayed curious and asked questions that lead to more research and topics surrounding war, such as the atomic bomb and PTSD. Even in the halls, they are talking about Louie and WWII and I know this story will stay with them.

Thank you so much for your contribution to allow all my students the opportunity to learn and read!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Moser

  • Freedom and Slavery in the American Revolution

    Funded Aug 7, 2020

This school year has been unlike any other. We are still 100% distance learning because of the high rate of covid cases near us. Students have lost family members and some are feeling very alone.

We are so grateful we are still able to read one of the novels the students look forward to the most. Chains helps them visualize and connect with the struggles people faced during the American Revolution. It brings the history to life while we learn about the path to the revolution and the formation of our government.

It's always even more exciting to learn about this era during a Presidential election year because most of these kiddos will be voting in the next one! So thank you so much for helping us enrich their distance learning experience with your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Moser

  • "Stop! Collaborate and Listen" Seating

    Funded Jul 20, 2020

These tables will make a HUGE difference for my students when they return to the classroom! I have been able to host small in-person groups so far, but I'm hoping to be able to see all my students again soon.

As you can see, we were working on phonics and building basic vocabulary with my newcomer students. With your donations I was able to buy supplies as well as the two tables and the chairs. The kids LOVED seeing the colorful tables with seats that they actually fit in!

Once we open I will install plexiglass on the tables as well so students may work together safely. Thank you so much again for supporting my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Moser

My room currently has one small round table for collaboration and students are left rearranging furniture constantly to get into groups. Once arranged nicely into groups, the desk/chair combos make it an obstacle course for myself and any student that needs to walk around the room. I hope to start to transform my room into a space that is welcoming, comfortable, and conducive to creative and critical thinking. I want a room where students can easily switch seats, not feel uncomfortable squeezing in and out of the desks, and where the focus is on the learning and not how squeaky or uncomfortable the chairs are. With these three sets I can run 4 different small group rotations comfortably with students doing independent work at the chair/desk combos. Teaching newcomer students means every student has a different grasp of English and small groups are essential to me meeting them where they are. In my Humanities classes, small groups research and use accountable talk strategies to debate and reason. They also jigsaw and report back to their table mates what they learned.
