I work with middle school students who are curious, resilient, and driventhey have the most incredible minds, and are always eager to learn more. However, because of their zip code and skin color, many people don't expect brilliance and instead expect failure. My school works to challenge society's expectations, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and character to succeed in the path to and through college. In my science classroom, students take ownership of their learning. I don't want to feed them content through a bland teacher-centered-lecture. I want to give students a chance to ask questions, plan investigations, collect data, and form their own conclusions. Through this inquiry-based learning model, students develop a more realistic relationship with science and gain the skills to find answers to all of their incredible questions.
