Many of my students have grown up with little to no books in their home. Many of them struggle to read basic text beyond the 3rd grade level. But, what I do know is they love and enjoy exploring books in our classroom library. Help provide new books for our classroom that meet their interest level! For example the "I Survived" series is popular, but we only have a few! Although the events in these books are catastrophic, many of my students identify with the struggles and emotions of the main characters in the books. I have sat with my students many times helping them read the words as they make connections. My students also come to school everyday needing basic items such as tissues, bandaids, sanitary items, pencils, hand sanitizer, and warm clothes. Sometimes basic needs become obstacles to their learning. I do the best I can! But, we go through items quickly especially during cold season. We are also in need of some additional classroom items such as cleaning supplies and a broom for the days when we are working hard and need to clean up quickly before the next period. Accidents happen sometimes too! Our classroom is a busy place. We would appreciate any support you are willing to give. To know my students is to love them. They have good hearts and kind spirits. They are motivated to make a mark on this world and despite their reading disabilities, they have numerous talents and gifts. They work hard and despite their daily setbacks, they show up in my classroom every day ready to learn. Thank you in advance.
