My sixth grade students are immersed into a culture of hard work and dedication to learning as soon as they arrive on our campus. Killeen is a very diverse city because of the military influence, bringing students from all walks of life into my classroom. Often, the transitions forced by the military make it difficult for students to cope. The teachers on my campus work incredibly hard to ensure our students are provided with a 21st century education, where equity and differentiation are the focus. My students thrive when provided with challenging learning tasks, all while refining their ability to work with others, and critically think through a problem. There is a multitude of research present showing that students learn and retain information when it is presented in a meaningful way. With four BreakoutEDU boxes, I hope to spread the love of collaborative learning by allowing all teachers access to this.
