Please help support our learning environment! Students with speech and language delays and learning disabilities are at a high risk for difficulties in learning to read, write, and develop social communication skills. An optimal learning environment can promote progress in individual and group therapy sessions. As one of five speech-language therapist in our school, space has become of utmost concern. Our teachers are working together to share the space. Presently we don’t have a board, and are in need of one. Students with speech and language disabilities thrive when provided with a multi-modal learning opportunities. With a white board I will be able to present visuals to students, as well as give them the opportunities to display their work. My students will be able to practice spelling words, learn how to write sentences, and create narratives on the white board. Materials such as the Magnetic Story Board, Storyteller Writing Box and the Story Sequencing Instant Learning Center, will provide students with the appropriate visuals to help them produce narratives, while also targeting vocabulary and parts of speech. Furthermore, materials like the Storyteller Writing Box can be used to produce a narrative in English or Spanish, as the students get the opportunity to create their own stories based on the picture cards. With your help, my students will be learning techniques and practicing learned skills while engaging in activities that are fun for them. As a bilingual SLP in a low-income school, it is often challenging to find resources to support therapy. With your help in obtaining a white board, and the language activity sets I can effectively facilitate learning for these wonder little humans!
