By funding this project, you will help give my little learners the most immersive, Autism-friendly, and COVID-safe environment possible. Because students with Autism often use multiple modalities for learning, it is critical to have flexibility and options when providing instruction. Items that were once frequently shared between students can no longer be passed back and forth and must be individualized or completely wiped down between uses, taking up precious time from the daily routine. The NeatSeat classroom chair organizers will allow me to pack individual supplies on the back of each students’ seat, eliminating the need for my students to travel around the classroom or share commonly touched supplies. Each will hold a multitude of books and supplies, attaching to the back of the chair, staying neatly out of the way. Now imagine being able to pack these cool bags with the wonderful feelings/emotions and language cards such as the ones from Stages of Learning! These social skills games will aid my students in readjusting to in person instruction and a room “filled” with other children. No student will be able to learn effectively if his or her feelings and emotions are not recognized and addressed upon returning to school. In addition, the Key Education cards will assist in guiding the children in conversations with their peers, further developing their social, emotional, behavioral and communication skills. These are just a few of the wonderful autism friendly materials in my wish list. Finally, the small area rugs requested will help establish clear learning areas and boundaries for small groups of students, and assisting in minimizing movement within the room. I am a brand new teacher in a brand new room and thank you in advance for your help in making this the best year possible!
