Developing a classroom community is crucial to creating a safe, welcoming space for students. When students feel comfortable in the classroom, they are more willing to participate and be apart of the community of learning. Therefore, it is important that as their teacher I provide a classroom that allows for students to get to know one another and develop positive relationships. A classroom rug provides a space for students to come together, get to know one another, and participate in collaborative learning. We will use this rug to create a place where we can have our classroom meetings, have discussions about texts, and do collaborative activities in a comfortable open space. The large rug will allow for students to each have their own space on the floor where they feel comfortable participating in the classroom community.
