I am a bilingual 3rd grade teacher at a Title I school and have on average 18 - 22 students each year. I have taught pre-k, second grade, and third grade as well as various summer school sessions. By third grade, students have made the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. State mandated tests requires students to become not only fluent readers, but readers that understand concepts such as inference, main idea, idioms, cause and effect, character analysis, and many others. The only way to achieve mastery of these concepts it to become great readers. I am currently working on building my classroom library and would truly appreciate your help.
