These sensory materials will provide a therapeutic experience for my students, especially for the child that is selective mute. The theraputty will give him an outlet to release his stress, calm down, and channel his emotions in a positive way. The kinetic sand and play dough will strengthen my students muscles and improve their fine motor skills. Using the different molds will reinforce shape recognition in addition to giving them a rich experience to explore their creative side. Engaging in sensory play comes natural to children and is essential to my non verbal learners.Sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which leads to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. It also supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.
